Showy Milkweed is a critical host plant for the Monarch Butterfly in the Central and Western US. A tall plant reaching a height of 4- 6 ft  has thick velvet leaves and large clusters of unique showy pink or purple blooms.

The fibers of the Showy Milkweed were used by the Native Americans to make ropes and nets.
