Rudbeckia hirta, Black Eyed Susans Seed Balls

  • 1450

Here's a favorite! This widely distributed native wildflower is a re-seeding perennial. This charming yellow ray flower with its enticing black center can reach up to 3 ft.  Although it's a second year bloomer, it will come back year after year and often forms large banks of late-season blooms. It attracts pollinators and many small birds eat the seeds.

Works best if planted in the Fall or early Winter.

A note about seed balls:
Seed balls, also known as seed bombs, protect the seeds from erosion, foraging, and many other factors. This protective property often results in a slower germination cycle. Wildflowers are also highly variable in their germination rates. Please be patient with your seed balls. If you placed them in a suitable location, soil, and climate, when the seeds are ready, they will grow!
